Hi! I'm Martha.
I've wanted to be a writer since I was in third grade, when my teacher would let me write stories as soon as I finished with my math. It took me a long time to figure out how to do it, though, and on the way, I had a lot of other jobs. I taught, wrote for a newspaper, interviewed movie stars and musicians for an online magazine I founded, wrote an educational humor column for an online encyclopedia, and wrote game questions for Cranium and Trivial Pursuit. I also founded National Grammar Day.
THE DINOSAUR TOOTH FAIRY is my first picture book. I got the idea for it when I was flying home from Los Angeles. I get lots of my best ideas in the air--for real (I love flying). I've written four other books, DEVINE INTERVENTION and FINDING BIGFOOT (both for young readers), as well as THINGS THAT MAKE US [SIC] and IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU (both for grownups).
I live in Seattle with my husband, our two girls, and our two dogs.
My favorite food is sushi, but I like Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean food a lot, too. My favorite sandwich is a BLT. If I could drink anything in the world, it would probably be a chocolate milkshake.
Hi! I'm Israel!
I was born in Fullerton, California. I am the oldest of five kids with three brothers and one sister.
I first started to draw with some seriousness copying characters from the endpapers of a Disney storybook. I would draw Mickey for people as a kind of magic trick. I always wanted to be an artist but I did have dreams of being a professional baseball player, the dream would be strongest every year during the World Series.
In art school at Cal State Fullerton I drew fairly realistically until I picked up a copy of the book "The Art of Monsters Inc.". The flat, colorful picture book style paintings by Lou Romano, Harley Jessup, and Geefwee Boedoe blew me away. Ever since then I've tried to capture the sense of fun and adventure in those paintings.
My favorite food is pizza and my favorite drink is Coca-Cola. Caffeine is a friend to all.
